The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks sponsors many fine projects each year including scholarship, clean living and patriotism. The annual Flag Day celebration in Mt. Carmel has deep roots as can be seen in photos of the former Elks Home adorned with the American flag in preparation for the ceremony.
Above: Notice the elegant necklace worn by Elks members today.
This display for the Elks Lodge shows some of the material from the many patriotic programs the lodge sponsors, including good citizenship programs for young people.

Above: The International Order of Odd Fellows is still active today. This display shows some Odd Fellows and Rebekah lodge items including the former Friendsville Lodge Hall.

These 2 Rebekah Lodge ribbons are actually identical, one shows the reverse side of the other. The black side is worn in mourning for memorial services. Rebekah is a part of the International Order of Odd Fellows. The Odd Fellows established a large cemetery on Mt. Carmel's east side, on a hill overlooking the Wabash River. It is a popular place for Easter sunrise services.
