The lines of these two garments are very similar with slight A-line shaping, curved sleeves, sleeve inserts and stand-up collars. The black garment on the left is a riding costume and the other is a more simple gown.

The bodice of the riding costume closes with hooks and eyes and would have very difficult to put on without assistance. It has a cumberbund and mock cape over the shoulders. The lace blouse is also a false effect since this is a one-piece bodice.


Both these garments have shaped sleeves. The silk frock has the fabric cut on the curve. Each has an inner and outer sleeve. The silk frock uses lace while the riding costume uses the same fabric. The silk sleeve is ornamented with covered buttons and green piping. The riding costume is ornamented with folded tape trim and elaborate medalions. See the close-up above.
